"Danke Schoen" (/ˈdɑːŋkə ʃeɪn/ DAHNG-kə shayn, German: [ˈdaŋkə ʃøːn] ⓘ) is a pop song of German origin, whose title translates to English as "Thank you very much". Bert Kaempfert, who composed the melody, recorded it as an instrumental, in 1959 and later in 1962, under the title "Candlelight Cafe". Kurt Schwabach wrote the German lyrics. The song gained international fame in 1963 when singer Wayne Newton recorded an American version, with English lyrics by Milt Gabler. The song achieved renewed popularity when it was featured in the 1986 American comedy film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, lip-synced by the main character, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick).

The Washington Post describes Newton as "America's number one night club act" and at his peak being more prominent in Las Vegas than both Sinatra and Presley.[2] Newton is the highest-grossing entertainer in Las Vegas history.[3] Throughout his career, Newton has appeared in a number of movies and television shows.
His well known songs include "Danke Schoen" (1963), "Summer Wind" (1965), "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" (1965), "Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast" (1972) and "Years" (1980). "Danke Schoen" is Newton's signature song and was notably used in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
